The Possibility of Reason

Prof Dr. Nick Stang (University of Toronto) & Prof. Dr. Karl Schafer (University of Texas, Austin)

Philosophy is the employment of reason to understand the world. Kant offered a compelling critique, however, of the very possibility of cognition through reason alone. In this seminar we’ll examine Kant’s texts in the light of contemporary philosophy to determine whether they contain the resources for a critique of dogmatic rationalism and/or skeptical empiricism about natural science, metaphysics, and ethics.
