Overcoming Naturalism?
Conference at the International Center for Philosophy NRW, Conferencelanguages are German, French, Italian and English
In the second half of the 20th century and before, naturalisms in various guises have dominated many areas of philosophy. The resurgence of philosophical realisms in the last two decades has put this dominance under scrutiny. Naturalistic implications for theoretical philosophy (metaphysics, ontology, epistemology), but also for practical and political philosophy are under debate. This debate has helped to reach a better understanding of these implications and their far-reaching consequences. And yet, it remains unclear and disputed how to deal with the naturalistic paradigm: Can it be overcome? Should it be overcome, or can we renew it? Do we have or need a new paradigm to replace the old one? This conference wants to explore some of these and other questions about naturalisms in the context of new realism.Date: March 31st, 2025
